Frequently Asked Questions
Where can I get my book delivered to?
We deliver to most countries worldwide. Enter your delivery address during checkout and we'll display the shipping cost when we know where to send your book.
How do supporter names work?
Every person who pledges to help to make a book gets their name included in a supporter section as a thank you as long as they pledge before the list closing deadline. If you want to add a different name, this can be changed in your account after you have completed your pledge.
Will the book and rewards that I receive look the same as the images shown on the Unbound website?

Who was the first woman elected to run a country? I bet you don’t know. But if you think it's high time you knew her name, then this is the book for you.
WOMEN WHO WON will profile 70 amazing elected women from the last 100 years and every single one will leave you wondering why you didn’t know her story before. The talented Emmy Lupin will illustrate every profile to bring them to life.
From Shirley Chisholm, the first Black woman elected to the U.S. Congress, and first major-party Black candidate to seek nomination for the U.S. presidency, who said "'If they don't give you a seat at the table, bring a folding chair.' To Berta Pīpiņa, the first woman elected to serve in the Latvian parliament in 1919, who strove to enact laws and policies to promote women's equality but who's life was later removed from encyclopedias. Or Jacinda Ardern, Prime Minister of New Zealand and the youngest female head of government in the world (taking office at age 37), who shared honestly how anxiety made her worried she wouldn't be suitable to stand.
Not to mention the fascinating backstories of leaders such as Isabel Perón, Indira Gandhi, Ellen Johnson Sirleaf and Julia Gillard.
I'm an author and former political journalist who cares deeply about women's political representation. I want to publish this book, not only to give elected women the recognition they deserve, but to encourage more women and girls to stand in the future.
WOMEN WHO WON is for everyone who wants to know how women have shaped our world. It's time to know the names of women from the past to the present who fought elections in a man’s world and WON.
This design is for illustrative purposes only and is subject to change after crowdfunding

4th November 2022Julia Gillard's misogyny speech - 10 years on
Dear friends
It's been a while since I updated you and I'm happy to tell you that the editing stage of Women Who Won is going well. The development edit has been completed with minimal changes and now we have moved on to the copy edit. Great progress!
I was prompted to write to you because last night I was in a room with one of the 70 women in the book. Julia Gillard was talking to Mary…
22nd July 2022The first illustration reveal!
Dear Winners
You will by now have seen the Unbound email telling you that they have received the book manuscript for Women Who Won. I wanted to celebrate this moment by giving you the opportunity to see one of the first illustrations of the ultimate political pioneer. Sirimavo Bandaranaike was the first woman in the world to become a democratically elected head of government when she became…
13th May 2022Education, education, education
Hi Friends
It really is time I updated you again as I come towards completing the final manuscript. The wonderful thing about having written and researched the lives of so many women is that it gives you a broad picture of the things it takes to succeed. Every one is different but so far there are two things that obviously stick out to me and the first is education. As someone who works in…
28th January 2022Illustrations and inspiration
Dear Winners
It's been a while since I updated you and plenty has been happening. The manuscript is coming on well and I'm excited to say that the illustrations have started rolling in. Seventy images is a lot, so it will take some time for our excellent artist, Emmy Lupin, to get through them all but it will be worth the wait.
One of the great things about the subject of the book is that women…

You will have already seen the emails letting you know that Women Who Won is 100% funded but I wanted to send a personal message of thanks. We did it! You and me. I'm so very grateful for your support and wanted to let you know what I'm up to now.
In all honesty it's midday on Friday (my writing day) and I am in bed. That's because it's where I work best. I couldn't compare myself to them…

I'm so pleased to say that Women Who Won is 90% funded and today I want to shift gears for the final stage of the crowdfund. My target to reach 100% is now set as the last day of September. So if you were considering getting yourself or someone else a reward - like a walking tour of Westminster or a tote bag - then now is the time!
For those keen to get more insight into the contents…
16th July 2021What you say to a girl child matters - Joyce Banda
Dear All
I'm so pleased to tell you that Women Who Won is getting closer and closer to its goal. We are now 86% funded and that feels great! I want to thank you for your patience and continued support. It's been tough trying to crowdfund during a pandemic when events where I could meet larger sponsors haven't been taking place. That means relying more on each individual who pledges for the book…

International Women's Day is upon us but a little different to other years. There will be no marches or events here in the UK, at least not in person. But of course we can still meet and campaign online - and we will.
I'll be talking about 'Women Who Won' on Weds 10th March at 6pm for the excellent Women in Public Affairs network. You can sign up to attend for free here.

Hello Friends
I hope this update finds you well and, if it's not too late, can I wish you a happy new year. However as International Women's Day appears on the horizon (8 March) I'm gearing back up for talks and sponsorship (do contact me…

25th September 2020This woman is winning
Hello All
I want to start by saying a massive thank you to the 276 of you who have now pledged to support Women Who Won. 275 of you are not my mum, so I am extremely grateful that you have put your trust in me to get this important book funded and published.

12th June 2020Black Lives Matter
Dear Friends
Whenever I write an update the world seems to have shifted on its axis. Since I last wrote to you the brutal killings of George Floyd and Breonna Taylor, the Black Lives Matter movement and the disproportionate effect of Covid-19 on Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic people has been at the forefront of my mind constantly.
It has made me more determined to raise up the stories of elected…
3rd April 2020A woman who won, leading in her own way
Dear Winners
It'a been a while since I've updated you on the progress of Women Who Won and the world looks very different. I'm continuining to crowdfund for the book in difficult circumstances but I'm positive that with your support we can make it.
As we adjust to a way of living that we may not be used to, I've been considering the role elected women are playing during the pandemic. Prime Minister…

Good afternoon winners!
Welcome to new pledgers and hello to old friends. Thanks for getting behind the campaign to get this important book published. I'm still amazed (disappointed but not surprised?) that these women have never been brought together in a book before.

3rd January 2020Women Winning in 2020
Dear Winners
Happy New Year, and for those of you in the UK, welcome back to a parliament with a record 220 women elected as MPs. Good news in part, but women are still only just over a third of MPs, so we have a way to go until the UK has equality in parliament. #WomenWhoWon wants to inspire more women to stand by increasing the visibility of those who came first.
In this update I'm introcuding…
