Last night I dreamt I ate some gingerbread again...
We want to say a huge thank you to everyone who has so generously and enthusiastically supported our spooky cookbook. You've helped us to pass the halfway point in our crowdfunding and, with the nights drawing in and Halloween lurking in the shadows, the second half should hopefully be a relative breeze.
As a thank you for being so wonderful, here's a little treat (no tricks) – our recipe for "very special" gingerbread, inspired by this Manderley afternoon tea spread in Daphne du Maurier's Rebecca:
"Those dripping crumpets, I can see them now. Tiny crisp wedges of toast, and piping-hot, floury scones. Sandwiches of unknown nature, mysteriously flavoured and quite delectable, and that very special gingerbread. Angel cake, that melted in the mouth, and his rather stodgier cousin, bursting with peel and raisins."
Let us know if you try it – we'd love to see your photos on social media. Find us @agothiccookbook (Twitter and Instagram).
As ever, sharing news of the book – and the link to our Unbound page – can give the campaign a huge boost. You can also upgrade your pledge level at any time (we recently added a wonderful vintage-style cocktail booklet, a "Vegetarian Monster" special inspired by Frankenstein, and a limited number of opportunities to get a Gothic-style portrait of your pet).
Happy baking!
