Belated Happy New Year to all!  Phoebe and I have been combatting the challenges of lockdown by retreating further into the fictional worlds.  We'll be sharing our work in progress with you as the book comes together... One of the great pleasures of publishing with Unbound is this ongoing connection with you, the supporters.

The Finding & Keeping online workshops really bring this into focus for me.  The day spent discussing all things Folk Tales and Folk Lore is always a delight, and I always come away from it with something new.  Not least around the revelations of the 'personal folklore' that we all carry with us.  One of the exercises we do together is based on inherited family sayings - and how these remembered lines tell their own stories. Here's a small selection from my notebook to whet your appetite...

Dates confirmed for February are Thursday 11th & Friday 19th.  There are still places left on both, so do please come and join me if you would like to.   The workshop in the morning runs from 10am-1pm, with civilised breaks along the way.  Then in the afternoon, you have your own guided writing time - including a 20 min 1-on-1 session with me.  You can then also submit 1,000 words of writing for my editorial feedback.

Lovely testimonials below, from previous attendees.  I make up a lot of stories, but I didn't make these ones up - I promise!

In her amazing Finding & Keeping workshop, Elizabeth Garner is a thoughtful and generous guide to a world that will delight any writer.  Lee Henshaw

Elizabeth Garner’s Finding & Keeping workshop was the best workshop I’ve been to in years. All you need to take part is an interest in folklore - you don’t need to be an expert. What you gain is a day spent in the best company, looking at fascinating archaeological finds, discovering brilliant new insights into the structure of folktales and ways of interpreting them  - and best of all, a head full of ideas for your own writing! Can’t recommend it highly enough.  Lu Hersey

It’s difficult not to go on and on about how much I enjoyed Elizabeth’s Finding & Keeping Workshop. The day was full of group discussions and opportunities to write independently and I gained so much from each task. Elizabeth isn't just knowledgeable, she is also incredibly kind, supportive and insightful.  I’ve taken three courses with Elizabeth over the past few years and I hope to take more in the future because I never fail to learn something new.   Georgia Fancett

Elizabeth’s Finding & Keeping workshops are an absolute must for anyone interested in the folk tale genre. They combine her great insight into the field of folklore with fascinating materials, and this makes for a wonderful learning experience. Nick Carter
