Hello everyone,

 

Hope you are all well. I just wanted to share a small but important update about Modernism Beyond Metro-Land. We have reached 89% of the crowdfunding total, so we can almost see the finish line. More importantly I have now finished the text for the book, (at least until a copywriter gets a look at it!) and I have also edited and chosen all the images, and prepared the maps. 

 

Considering I was worried about what buildings I would be able to include for some boroughs like Barking & Dagenham, Bexley and Sutton, where the modernist impulse did not seem as strong as the other boroughs, I am pleased that in the end, it was a matter of what to leave out. To this end, I have dropped the section that was going to focus on the London adjacent part of Surrey. The 12 boroughs included in the book have more than enough to compensate for what we lose from the leafy county over the border. 

 

So all we need to do now is get to 100%! Thank you for your support so far. If you know of anyone who might be interested in a modernist guide to London’s eastern and southern suburbs, or somewhere that might be interested in advertising it, please let them or me know. Hopefully it won’t be too long now.
