Hi all,
We're now coming to the end of the slow-and-steady production phase where things take lots of time to check and get right. As I understand it, the book is done, but for a few final checks, and it'll be heading off to the printers very soon.
In the meantime, I'll have a few other things I need to get done. I need to record the audiobook I promised you as a stretch goal, which I'll be starting on as soon as I finish recovering from a sore throat I've had this past week or so. I also need to sign and send back to Unbound the bookplates that some of you are getting as part of your reward tier, as those arrived at my door yesterday. And I need to build the website I'll be using as a hub for marketing and promotion. As I did with The Secret History of Mac Gaming, I plan to have the website design be a throwback to an earlier era in computing. If I have time I'll make multiple themes/skins to cover the different platforms/OSs that are relevant to the book (MS-DOS, Windows 95, Amiga Workbench, MacOS versions 6 through 9, and Atari TOS), but if not I'll focus on just DOS as that's where I think the most nostalgia lies for shareware gaming (and I already found a DOS-style website template I can use to get me started).
I need to get those three things finished before we start shipping out rewards to you in early August or late July, although the website could I suppose be a partially-live work-in-progress right until the book's official launch in the second half of August.
I'll talk to you more about all this stuff in the next update, and will see if I can give you a peek behind the scenes at how it all comes together.
