Morning all,

I wanted to write an update about how some of the material that's going into this book has been changing some minds over the past couple of weeks.

It's...

• changed the views of a top conservative politician on fertilisers and animal farming.
• encouraged a carbon offset company to stop selling offsets and start selling "contributions", so that polluters can't use them as an excuse to keep polluting.
• and, whilst it's too soon to tell the overall impact of this, it's explained to a large PR firm that's been working with fossil fuel giants why there's no justification left for supporting fossil fuel companies.

I also wanted to share with you a couple of stats about fossil fuel use, and who's most to blame for driving us further towards disaster.

Did you know that 85% of currently planned expansion of oil and gas proojects is in Canada and the USA? If you expand that list to include the UK, Norway and Australia, it's almost all of the world’s planned expansion.

Meanwhile, the way we measure emissions is very strange. If we buy a laptop that's made in China, then all of the emissions released during its manufacture are counted as Chinese emissions. But should they be? Would they have been emitted if we weren't buying it? About 1/4 of all the world's emissions are allocated to the wrong countries, and need to be reallocated to countries like the UK.

When these little legends migrate from the depths of the ocean to the surface each day, it moves more water than the moon. It's the largest animal migration on Earth. They spend all day eating algae, and their poo falls to the seabed storing carbon faster than almost any other system on Earth.
