So here I am - only a few pledges away from 80% funded and that's in lockdown! To say I am grateful to you lovely supporters is an understatement. I have not been idle. Determined from the start that Bera's journey would be completed with Unbound, I've been making sure the draft I will send to my wonderful editor is the best it can be. And then - this. The small picture shows two of the drawings I did for a reward level in Sea Paths, so I've used the Serpent again - loyal readers will know why - in this rough sketch above. It's very much a first draft!
The serpent eating its own tail is an ancient symbol of infinity or rebirth. It's been called the Ouroboros and appears in many other cultures and settings. In Norse legend, the Serpent Jormungand, one of the three children of Loki and Angrboda, grew so large that it could encircle the world and grasp its tail in its teeth. I did an ink drawing of this, which I also pictured in Obsidian as the huge iron ring of the Abbot's door. I like the idea that something that I drew for Book 1 will be repeated for Book 3. The serpent of creation eating its own tail: not dying, but transforming into another realm.
It's a trilogy and there's a triskelion - but I'll save that for another update. Let me know what you think. And if you know someone who would love a map: spread the word!
