Dear Winners

It'a been a while since I've updated you on the progress of Women Who Won and the world looks very different. I'm continuining to crowdfund for the book in difficult circumstances but I'm positive that with your support we can make it.

As we adjust to a way of living that we may not be used to, I've been considering the role elected women are playing during the pandemic. Prime Minister of New Zealand, Jacinda Ardern, is one of the 70 women who will feature in Women Who Won. When she took office in 2017 at age 36 she was the world's youngest female head of government.

You can see her recent Facebook live video above, recorded from her couch in a tracksuit after putting toddler Neve to bed. Ardern has never been afraid to do things differently, to show empathy. After the terrible Christchurch attack she told US President Donald Trump to show sympathy and love for Muslim communities, a response she said "shouldn't have been noteworthy." She said, "It's instinctive when you're mourning with someone to reach out in that way. It just felt to me like a human response."

Her response to the pandemic we are facing is similarly human, as you can see from her video. Take a moment to watch it and consider what she brings to leadership that others may not.
