What a whirlwind couple of months it’s been. The cookbook is in the final stages of production and a sneak peek has been sent out to subscribers who have pledged for their copy - I do hope you’ve enjoyed what you’ve seen so far. In the name of sharing the love, I’ve been lucky enough to receive incredible endorsements from some of my favourite chefs and food writers including Vivek Singh, Mallika Basu, Ravinder Bhogal, Dan Lepard, MiMi Aye, and more. Check out what they had to say below.
'A book that is both current but also deeply rooted in tradition. It’s unapologetic about the cross-over of cultures, it’s bright, vibrant and dynamic as she takes readers on a journey across countries and generations. Her personal storytelling and expression is only bettered by her inimitable eye which sees the beauty of the most familiar of dishes in a new light'
- Vivek Singh, The Cinnamon Club
'Love how confidently Sanjana Modha revisits traditional Indian, East African and British favourites with fresh and inspired ingredients and brilliant serving ideas. With Sanjana Feasts every page leaves me excited, every recipe is packed with flavour'
- Dan Lepard, author of Short and Sweet
'I am already such a fan of Sanjana’s work and the book is just as I expected it to be; invitingly warm, conversational in its tone, and packed full of approachable and inspiring recipes that while rooted in tradition are thoroughly modern and highly rewarding'
- Ravinder Bhogal, Jikoni
'A rich tapestry of culture and migration woven into irresistible and creative Indian recipes by a very talented, fresh voice in food writing’
- Mallika Basu, author of Masala
'This book is packed with passion, creativity and deliciousness. If, like me, you’ve been an avid follower of Sanjana’s cooking on Instagram, this book gives you the long form versions of her brilliant recipes, punctuated with stories, notes and tips all brimming with her fresh and unique perspective on Indian cooker'
- Karan Gokani, Hoppers London
'A delightful collection of vegetarian and vegan recipes that will woo anyone who loves Indian food but also wants to up their game in the kitchen.’
- Nik Sharma, author of Veg-Table
'Sanjana’s writing is warm and beautiful, and her recipes are fun and packed with useful tips, but most importantly, it all sounds delicious! I want to make every single one of her dishes, and I’m starting with that heavenly ruffled biryani’
- MiMi Aye, author of Mandalay
My heart feels full!
Something I don’t often talk about a great deal is my love of food videography and photography. Capturing the food I share in the best light has woven itself into the fabric of my cooking process. I’m completely self taught, with a degree in English so although the technical application of using cameras and software was a learning experience, the innate passion for storytelling it enables has been a part of me for as long as I can recall. Over 8 years, I learned on the job as a content producer on Food Network and afterwards, for my own platforms (www.sanjanafeasts.co.uk). What a journey.
I see my production process (video, voice over and photography) as a conduit, giving the food a voice with which to tell its own unique story. I hope that shines through in what you see in the book.
One of my greatest achievements these past eighteen months has been that I photographed all the images in this cookbook. Alongside the recipes and stories, there are photos to illustrate exactly how the final dish should look. One thing I’ve been adamant about has been that every recipe should have a photograph. It was a monumental undertaking to produce these alongside the food writing and testing 80 recipes but I bloody did it. Even though I was living in a state of perpetual overwhelm for longer than I should have been, I’m so proud of the final result.
We truly do eat with our eyes… and our ears, hands, hearts and souls
If you've already pledged for your copy, thanks so much - do feel free to message me on Instagram if you’ve cooked any recipes from the book preview that was sent out a few weeks ago. I’d love to see what you’ve been cooking!
