About The Book
Jim Moir (the artist formerly known as Vic Reeves) delivers another volume of his exquisite paintings of British birds.
In 2019, Unbound published Birds, a small but perfectly formed volume of Jim's fast-growing collection of bird paintings. Compact enough to slip inside the pocket of a cagoule, it quickly became a bestseller and continues to delight everyone who enjoys looking at and learning about our beaked and feathered fellow travellers.
In April this year, Jim and his wife Nancy hosted a new show on Sky Arts – Painting Birds with Jim and Nancy Moir which got wonderful reviews and brought Jim's bird paintings to a whole new audience. A second series has been announced for Spring 2024 and although these books aren't official tie-ins, they are inspired the same generous spirit and are overflowing with Jim's wonderful paintings.
As Jim tells us: When I started painting birds I did them in an exaggerated style, almost like caricatures. But I've gradually come to realise I get a real kick out of making them as realistic as I can. And I think I'm getting better and better at painting them.
We think so too – and this volume of another hundred even better paintings is the proof.
Jim doesn't just see birds, he looks at them, so intensely that he understands them. Not just anatomically or behaviourally - he knows how they feel.
