Dearest funder-friends,
I'm so glad that it was today at 3pm that I had the first meeting with our book editor Justine. The day when, like many of you, I just wanted to stay hiding under my duvet covers all day and pretend Trump didn't just win the US presidential election. I was worried about my first meeting with the Editor for weeks after I heard she had been found by Unbound and accepted the job: What if she doesn't 'get' what the book is all about? What if we don't work well together or even like each oher? What if she doesn't really care about the book and just wants to get the job done to get paid? Could today get any worse?
But she is great!:) Justine totally gets it, is highly experienced, loves the message of the book and is excited to 'prune' (her words) my 95,000 word draft into the best version this book can be! We are both dreaming of a 70,000 word book that inspires, empowers and engages people to be gentle, kind and effective changemakers. We chatted about how 2016 has shown us so far that there is a lot of social change to do in 2017 and beyond and we need all hands on deck to do it. That includes introverts, craftsters, burntout activists, those who crave to be the change they wish to see in the world but don't know where to start and more. We agreed that we would work tirelessly in the next 8 weeks (including Christmas and New Year) to turn my draft into a finished book that is something beautiful and useful we believe can have a positive impact on our world. Thank YOU for making this book possible! :) Justine and I are 'Fired up and ready to go!' (maaaan, I'm going to miss Obama). We will make this book something you WILL be proud to have your name in and I can't wait to see how it is used as a catalyst for social change next year and beyond.
The book should be in your hands and on bookshelfs October 2017 (unless something unforseen happens but that's unlikely) with copies going to media peeps a few months before to generate coverage. If you know of any journos / influencers you think would help us spread our message of gentle protest craftivism through this book then please do email me on sarah@craftivist-collective.com.
So on a day when we could easily make dispair convincing let us please keep hope possible and be even more determined to be kind, just and the role models we want to see.
All my friendship, respect and gratitute
Sarah x
Ps There is still time until 2nd January 2017 to pre-order a copy of the book for a loved one and have their name in the back of the book alongside other funders. Plus some of our packages could be perfect Christmas gifts for Christmas 2016 or 2017;) x
