Signs of Progress

Hello, everyone!

Apologies for the delay; end-of-year classwork and many other Outside World events have been coming together the past couple of weeks to block me from updating.

I'm pleased to report that Discarded now stands at 10% funded; tremendous thanks to those who pushed it past this early yet important milestone! As of this past weekend, the pitch video and updates for this project, and those from my author pages on Facebook and Wordpress, can now be accessed on Twitter; the link to my feed is included below. Please retweet and otherwise pass these on!

Also, as promised, here's the next excerpt from the background/timeline created for Discarded. Should any of you want more details beyond these and the excerpt, please don't hesitate to ask!

2024: Successful test of ARC on human test subjects at CellWorx, allowing severe burn victims to regrow skin with no pain or other side effects, and granting the gift of motion and sight to crippled and blind subjects. Daniels’ Vanguard Party government is reelected at this time (given steadily increasing economic downturn and tensions abroad), and makes a new offer of closer ties with the military in exchange for greater funding and possibility of wider civilian application of ARC. Despite yet more misgivings, Garrett finally agrees, on the condition that his work is performed in Seattle…though not before a final shouting match with Hunter over the nature and course of their enterprise ends their partnership.

2026: In the wake of disastrous military interventions in Iran, Pakistan and Indonesia, American public resentment towards these and the military in general skyrockets. Having now heavily invested in Garrett’s work, the DC administration pushes him to officially join the military establishment in creating a “super-soldier” to eventually take the place of the majority of American foot soldiers, thus alleviating public anger. Exhausted from years of labor, Garrett accepts, with the same condition of being allowed to remain in Seattle.
