The more I write this book, the more I realise why it has been a project close to my heart for so long. It's becoming quite autobiographical in the way these forgotten heroes of comedy have enriched and informed my life. I'm a huge fan of 'Professor' Jimmy Edwards. I remember as a family in the late 1970s, we would all crowd round the television set to watch him in his sitcom 'The Glums'. Around that time I also saw him on stage with Carry On star Kenneth Connor. Quite an experience. Years after his death, a good friend of mine and I made a drunken pilgrimage to his grave in the Sussex Downs. The full, raucous tale will be revealed in the book! Here's a very young Jimmy just before the outbreak of the Second World War and without his trademark moustache.
