Well, it's been a while, hasn't it?
The crowdfunding campaign for Why Do Birds Suddenly Disappear? was launched nearly five years ago. And tomorrow, Thursday 18th February, the paperback edition – with a spanking new cover by the wonderful Mark Ecob – will be published.
This, of course, might be only of passing interest to you. Displaying enviable cunning, you got ahead of the game by supporting it before it even existed. Your needs have been catered for – what use do you have for a piffling paperback?
Well, for one thing it would be wonderful if you could spread the word by any means at your disposal. Many of you have been kind enough to tell me how much you enjoyed the book – if you could extend that to telling other people, it would make me even happier. The success or otherwise of books like this depends enormously on word-of-mouth, and lacking a massive (or any) publicity budget (you would be amazed how much the big publishers spend on making a book successful) we're pretty much reliant on the goodwill of the people. All help is much appreciated.
But I'm also taking this opportunity to thank you once again for your support all those months and years ago. Without you, the hardback wouldn't have happened; and without it I wouldn't have been picked up by Elliott & Thompson for two books – the first of which, Into The Tangled Bank, was published last year, and the second of which sits on my hard drive, tantalisingly close to completion. With conducting activities on hold for the last year, writing it has kept me sane. Well, sane-ish.
And if you happened to want a copy (or even copies – a man can dream) to give to friends or family, you could either ask your local bookshop to get it in (they need all the help they can get at the moment) or you could go here.
Thanks!
Lev
