An email from Alison. We’d spoken at some length last week about design ideas. Then I had waited. Towards the end of the week I had sent a plaintive message, can I see anything yet? The message back was Alison laughing. Next week she said.
It’s never a good idea to check your email when you have to go to the post office, when you have to paint. But there it was. From Alison. To say she was sending the files, to 'kick off design conversations'. I couldn’t wait until I got back to see what she had done.
The thing about Alison is, she listens, she thinks, she looks, and then she takes ideas, thoughts, and stitches them together in a different way. She’s an amazing designer, and when someone is an artist, you respect their work, don’t tell them what to do. So, it’s always best to open the files with an open mind.
Three pdfs.
All three utterly beautiful.
But the first of the three replies so beautifully to the dreaming nature of the book… and though Alison doesn’t know it yet, as she’s not received the edited text, to some of the language in the book.
So, here, now, she’s given me permission to share a little of her work in progress. And this is something of how The Unwinding will feel in the mind, in the eye.
