Clean Draft of Part 1 Complete - Real Strides being made

It has been a long time since I have given any update about Running The Americas and for that I am sorry! But today, I am happy to be able to give postive news about progress!

I have just finished the first clean draft of "Running the Americas - Part One". This section covers the 9300km from Vancouver to the most southerly part of the Pan American Highway in Panama where the Darien Gap starts. The word count for this section currently sits at 78,000 words. It will need to be edited to about 50,000 words but I will tackle this when I have a full clean draft.

I am now moving on to Part Two which covers the journey from Turbo in Colombia, to Buenos Aires in Argentina. This part of the adventure was 7666km and was run in 177 days, averaging 43km a day and tackling challenges such as the Sechura Desert, Atacama Desert, crossing the Andes Mountains at altitudes of 4830m and battling soaring heat.

I will edit the 38,000 words I have already written for Peru and Colombia and then work on the Ecuadorian, Colombian and Argentinian sections.

I was exploring the option of splitting it into two separate books but I have been informed that the Editors at Unbound aren't able to offer any assistance or advice until the book is fully funded and the full text is submitted.

I admit the progress has been slower than I had initially intended and that is down to two things. Firstly, writing is REALLY difficult! And I have also been very busy pursuing my main passion - adventuring. Since, I launched the "Running the Americas" project back in August 2017, I have:

  • Run the Transalpine Run (twice)
  • Run the Cape Wrath Ultra
  • Trek across part of Mongolia with 10 camels
  • Summited Aconcagua (6962m) in Argentina - Short Film
  • Run across Iceland - Short Clip
  • Cycled across Australia - Short Film
  • Wilderness trekked part of the Hayduke trail - Episode 1 of 20
  • Summited Chimborazo (6268m), Cotopaxi (5897m) and Cayambe (5790m) in Ecuador

I will try and be better at keeping you up to speed. Now time to focus on South America.

Thank you again for your support!
