Christmas bonus

Why Do Birds Suddenly Disappear? will be published on 17th MAY 2018 – you'll get your copy some time (so far unspecified – see below) before that. Also, please click here for SPECIAL BONUS MATERIAL.

I apologise for the peremptory nature of the above announcement, but to judge by some of the questions I've been getting, not everyone reads these updates, so I thought I'd get the key information in early on, to take advantage of the 1.84 seconds people generally devote to reading the first bit of any email (if they read them at all...)

For the rest of you, with your preternaturally expanded attention spans, I can spread my wings just a bit.

As mentioned above, the book will shortly be going to print, which is of course tremendously exciting. And while we can be specific about the publication date, the question of when exactly you'll get your copy (whether physical or e-version) is a little more nebulous. I don't want to promise a date and then have you all wait another month. But they generally go out at least a month before the publication date, and I'm told we're ahead of schedule. So that's all good then. Yes. Exactly. Yes.

Meanwhile, to tide you over and whet your appetites, if you click the link in the first paragraph (or indeed this one) you'll be able to download a little bonus material – it's the album of photos that was promised when we reached 120% of our funding target, and I've added a little commentary to each photo to zhoozh (zhuzh? zhoosh? Modern life is so confusing) things up a bit.

The advantage of being sent an album rather than me coming round and showing you all the photos individually is that you don't have to find eighty different appreciative noises ('ooh nice – lovely – ooh that's a nice one – how sweet'), but I'll imagine you making them anyway.

This will be the last update of 2017. I'll return in January with more details about when you'll get your actual book. Until then, Happy Christmas and may your tinsel remain free of brandy butter (and, come to think of it, vice versa).
