A little extract from Chapter 9: Graceful Activism

To my lovely supporters and friends (that's you!),

I hope you are well, warm and had a happy Christmas :) To give hope for a happy 2017 when many of us are feeling despair, I thought you might like to read a very short extract from Chapter 9 of the book you are helping to create. I've called the chapter 'Graceful Activism' and the whole chapter focuses on a craftivist’s gentle protest approach to power:

What if we turned the ideas of power upside down, turned away from the desire to control others by force and encouraged those in power to try to always use their influence in the most loving way possible? Let’s be subversive craftivists not adding to the cynicism we sadly often see in activism. Let’s look at the bigger picture: instead of hating our enemies, let’s show them love. Instead of brashly asserting and promoting ourselves and our agenda, let’s quietly get on with the work of justice on behalf of others. Instead of trying to win every argument through sheer force of numbers or names on a petition or bullying an opponent, let’s gently encourage them by sometimes being prepared to lose the argument. Instead of competing to take their power let’s empower them to use their power well. Instead of fighting to punish people, let’s fight to change the system and culture. Instead of creating battlefields, let’s build bridges.

With your help we can hopefully spread graceful activism in 2017 and beyond...

Sending all my best wishes for your year ahead and gratitude for your support and encouragment. I am in the last two weeks of editing the book which is hard work but super exciting and I have to admit to you, I really think it's shaping up to be a pretty good read!;p #humblebrag
