Dr Kathryn Mannix has had a career in palliative medicine, working as a consultant in hospital, community and hospice palliative care services in Newcastle upon Tyne. She trained as a Cognitive Behaviour Therapist in 1993 and founded the UK's first dedicated palliative care CBT clinic in Newcastle. She developed and evaluated a CBT-based skill set for palliative care practitioners. This has been highly evaluated, and 'CBT First Aiders' have now been trained around the UK. Dr Mannix retired from clinical practice in 2015 but remains active in delivering CBT Skills training, and in campaigning to improve public understanding of dying. Her first book, 'With the End in Mind,' is a Sunday Times bestseller and has been longlisted for the Wellcome Book Prize (Photo by Craig Fordham).
