Chatting about Nótt

Monday, 30 April 2018

Hello hello! I have another brief chat about a character from my book Valkyrie. In this third chat, I speak with actress Camber Donahoe about the shield-maiden Nótt!

You can find the transcription of the video interview below.

We’re about a third of the way through the crowdfunding campaign, and if you’re excited about the book, please tell your friends and family about Valkyrie. If you’d like to help me spread the word on social media, I invite you to use the hashtag #VALKYRIEnovel. Thank you so much!

See you next week when we chat about the Valkyrie herself, Hildr!

Valkyrie Chatting about Nótt Transcript

WILLIAM: Thank you Camber for joining us today, to talk about Nótt, who you play in the trailer.

CAMBER: Thank you so much. Thank you for having me.

WILLIAM: When we first meet her in the novel, what is it that Nótt is looking for? What is she trying to accomplish?

CAMBER: Well, ah, when we first meet Nótt she is moments after— moments after getting married— uhm, and so shortly after that she leaves her husband and she travels through this mysterious, foggy wood. Uhm, and although she is a shield-maiden, she hopes to end some of the long history of violence that runs through her family and her husband’s family.

WILLIAM: And what does the Valkyrie want of Nótt?

CAMBER: Nótt takes the role of the storyteller and she shares with Hildr the mythology surrounding this particular flower that some people think has the power to save Nótt’s people from their greatest enemy. But Nótt is skeptical. I think that she would love to believe that that story is real. I think it enchanted her at one point in her life. But that story is a little bit foggy. Kinda like the woods that she’s traveling through. Nótt also really isn’t entirely sure if the Valkyrie is friend or foe, uhm, and I would definitely say that a lot of the other characters probably think that too. Uhm, but she is the only one that really befuddles the Valkyrie—

WILLIAM: She kinda turns the tables then?

CAMBER: She does, yeah, yeah. She’s a little shifty.

WILLIAM: Oh! (laughs)

CAMBER: Catches her off-guard. (laughs)
