The Copy Edit
Dear Supporters
The book should be out in the spring!
I’m now in the last stage of the copy edit, a process far less daunting than the structural edit. The aim is to remove continuity errors (for example, a yellow car becomes a red car), check the formatting, and to generally polish.
The manuscript is now locked so I can only suggest revisions to Mary (my copy editor); however, I have the final say. I’m accepting 80 per cent, and pushing back on 20 per cent of her changes, which feels about right.
Her focus (and hence mine) has been on the final chapter, and the final sentence. I’ve tweaked it for a week, and started dreaming about it. I hope you like it!
I’m now also planning a book tour (yes, really!) for next year. I’ll be speaking to reading and writing groups and festivals, U3As, VIth forms, Colleges, and anyone else who’s interested. I’ll be talking about the book, but also the long road to publication. If you’re a member of a group who might be interested, or know someone who is, please get in touch. I’ve had a great response so far!
Please share the link to The Trail with anyone you think might be interested. It can be pre-ordered at https://unbound.com/books/the-trail/
Thank you
James
