A limited-edition print, by Jove!
A big thanks to everyone who has pledged so far. It looks like the Super Patron Paperback is the most popular choice, and a very fine one too, combining paperback and digital editions and a mention at the front of the book.
For those who like a little illustration alongside their historical-sci-fi-thrills I thought I would share a little more about the Limited Edition Print that is on offer for pledges of £250 or more.
The print is being designed by Andrew Park, a good friend of mine and an amazing artist who also happens to be the creator of the RSA Animates and one of the best visual thinkers I know. He and his creative studio, Cognitive, have illustrated ideas for all kinds of people including a series of animations for the BBC on The History of Ideas and Stephen Hawking’s Reith Lecture on black holes.
When Andrew heard that the whole Unbound thing was happening, he offered to do a Sterling Directive print for me and we started talk through some ideas, imagining what sort of style would best suit Sterling’s alternative late Victorian world. We went from Victorian penny dreadfuls to dot matrix printers, then got very excited about 1980s video cassette covers. Oh, and airships, obviously!
It says a lot for Andrew’s talent that he managed to pull all of that together, bring in some themes from the book and turn it into something amazing, or rather about 20 different amazing ideas, of which you can see a few below. We haven’t settled on the final design yet, when we do, I’ll post another update.
The final print will be an A3, high quality giclée print in a limited run of 50, signed by both of us. In addition, Andrew will be hand-finishing the prints that go to Unbound pledgers to create an even-more-limited edition that won’t be available once the book is published.
I’m quite excited! Can you tell?
