The Sharp End
Hi all
Just dropping you a quick line to let you know that I received an email from the copy-editor this morning.
It starts off like this:
The first thing to say is the most important: I really enjoyed this. I love a good historic adventure, and this delivers it. Your research is hugely impressive, but you have managed to wear it lightly and, as a by-product of the action. Having a novel set in this context is a great premise in itself. Santi is an engaging protagonist, and there are some great villains too. Nice work!
I was obviously dead chuffed to read this first paragraph. The email also contains some excellent feedback on the tweaks which have been made to the revised manuscript. It ends as follows:
This is basically your last chance to rewrite things. After you've sent it back to me the book gets typeset. Then it goes to a proofreader.
This is a great story, and it left me looking forward to the next one.
Any queries, let me know.
PS Will look at the maps on Monday
As you might imagine, I'm already in the garage as I type this message, and I can't wait to get stuck into the revised manuscript.
Xmas or bust, Go Santiago!
Best,
James
