Editorial Shenanigans

Hello everybody,

It's been some time since I've created an update as things have been very busy. But a convenient (yet slightly concerning!) work drought has nicely coincided with notes from the editorial team.

My editor, Craig, gave me notes dotted throughout the text (although I was very glad to see many chapters had no notes at all!) and essentially it all boiled down to the same thing. At times I'd been impatient to carry on with the story and not described certain things enough. Perhaps it's my short attention span, perhaps my dyspraxia comes into play here or perhaps it's the fact I've this is my debut novel!

In general I've just enjoyed expanding some sections of the book. It's been fun to give the story and characters a little but more breathing space. I ended up coming up with more chapters. Some are old chapters that have been expanded but three of them are a section of Krish and Balthrir's journey which I've decided to extend. This is a bit more than editorial had suggested but I believe it's needed. I don't want anybody to feel that I'm adding anything as filler or for pure indulgence; these are passages I feel really are needed.

As the new chapter names aren't particularly spoilery, here are their names...

The first I draft I created in 2014 / 15 was 56,000 words. The latest draft that I've sent to Unbound is almost 100,000 words (somewhere between Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets and Prisoner of Azkaban in length). I'm really proud of it and I can't wait to get the green light from editorial and for a publication date to be set.

The edit I'm working on at the moment is the structural edit and this is where most of the work is done. I'm now just waiting for the greenlight to move onto the next stage of editorial. The next two stages are meant to be a lot quicker. I'm hoping that very soon the book will no longer be a changeable Word document and be sent to press.

I cannot wait to get this story out of my head and into yours...
