The Backstreets of Purgatory
Caravaggio in Glasgow: A Tale of Art, Insanity and Irn Bru by Helen Taylor
Review for The Backstreets of Purgatory
Outstanding first novel; quirky snappy prose. A real page turner but lots of depth and breadth to plot and sub plots. Very well developed characters , some very likeable (Maurice, Rob) and others to be greatly pitied (Tuesday and especially Finn). Wonderful mixture of contemporary Glasgow, art history and mental health. Stunning unexpected ending.
