The Almanac: A Seasonal Guide to 2018

By Lia Leendertz

A guide to help you reconnect with the seasons, through gardening, eating seasonally, moon gazing, foraging, celebrating feast days and picking bunches of seasonal flowers

Though all pledges are received with glee, I have to admit that I get most excited during this crowdfunding journey when someone pledges to come along to my launch party. Perhaps it's the excellent faith it shows - yes, there will be a book to launch! - or perhaps it's just that I like a party, and I think this will be a lovely one. Anyway, there have been a few developments on the party planning that I thought warranted drawing your attention to. Two lovely and generous friends have offered to help out, in quite excellent ways. Mark Diacono of Otter Farm, reknowned through East Devon and beyond for his cocktail making skills, is going to be on hand mixing the cocktails that will make the party go with a swing. He tells me that currently he is thinking of: Ginger Tom Collins; Lemon Verbena Mojito; and a very autumnal Medlar Smash. As if that werent enough, Claire Thomson, who you may know as The Five O'Clock Apron, has also offered her services whipping up the party food on the pizza oven. Currently under her consideration: wood roast vegetables, labneh and pissaladiere. I will almost certainly make a cake, and a batch or two of mulled cider. Maybe some homemade marshmallows for you to roast on the fire.

A couple of people have asked me some questions about the party, and so here are the answers to those:

- Date: we can't set a definite date yet, but we will be firmly aiming for a Saturday night in early October 2017, as the book is ready to go out into the world. Clearly much can happen between now and then, so we would be a bit silly to commit to a date now, but that is the strong aim. We will give loads of notice so that you can plan.

- Venue: I am hoping that we will make use of the beautiful straw bale house and pizza oven on the community garden at my allotment site in north Bristol.

- What if you have already pledged? You do not have to buy party tickets on top of the pledge you have already made. You can upgrade your current pledge. Look at your account dashboard and you should see an 'upgrade' button next to each pledge you have made.

Please consider coming along. It will be a great fun way of giving your support and helping me to bring this book into the world.

Sounds amazing Lia, unfortunately it is too far from me to come with childcare commitments. But I hope you all have a fabulous evening :-)
