Good news for lovers of speculative detective fiction! JayHenge Publishing has just released a brand new anthology, Unearthly Sleuths. In much the same way as Ten Little Astronauts takes the basic premise of And Then There Were None and moves it onto an interstellar spacecraft, every single story in this book follows a detective of some kind or another working in a very unusual setting: essentially, anywhere but Earth as we know it.
Two of the stories in Unearthly Sleuths are mine, and one of those has never been printed anywhere before. "Noise on the Wire" takes place in an alternate 1930 in which a nightmarish parallel world has been discovered. This other world - the Alterworld - is permanently pitch black and virtually uninhabitable, but it's home to an entire ecosystem of bizarre (and thus very valuable) creatures. It's a setting I've come back to again and again over the years, and if it strikes your fancy too then you might enjoy Echoes, a horror story I made available for Halloween 2014.
If you'd like to read "Noise on the Wire," Unearthly Sleuths is now included in the £35 Audio Collection Level, so if you're supporting Ten Little Astronauts at that level or above you can already expect a copy of the ebook along with your other rewards! It's also included in the £25 Digital Bundle, which will get you the audio collection as well as ebooks of Unearthly Sleuths, Face of Glass, and at least six of my flash fiction anthologies (essentially everything in the Audio Collection level but the paperback, to save on shipping).
Of course, if you want your copy of Unearthly Sleuths right this minute, you can find a Kindle version on Amazon, and if you're really keen there's also a paperback. Jessica Augustsson's anthologies are always top-notch - my work has also appeared in Phantasmical Contraptions and Other Errors - and I'm looking forward to getting a hard copy for myself very soon.
