The Tango Effect

By Kate Swindlehurst

Parkinson’s and the healing power of dance

Wednesday, 31 January 2018

First, a MASSIVE thank you to all supporters so far! - to the 130+ who've pledged their support financially and helped us to an encouraging 40% of the target, as well as the creative thinkers, those who've posted blogs and articles, John for the photos and the tireless ones like Jack who have persisted with shares and tweets and generally helped to keep this small boat afloat. Also to tango DJs local & international (Paris, Albuquerque &, of course, Buenos Aires) who have contributed their top ten tangos as a reward for the Boleo pledge. Inevitably I suppose, the rate of progress towards the funding target has slowed somewhat and I have three ideas to address this next month...

One is for me to approach the big guns: charities, perhaps, but also drug companies, in the hope of a more substantial contribution. The second is to arrange some kind of fund-raising event(s) - someone suggested a 'sponsored soup over' (I  have to find out what this is!). I'm less keen on this as it smacks of - well, charity - whereas I guess I'm hoping for something more along the lines of an investment in the arts if that's not too grand a claim - or at least a statement of faith that what I have written will be worth reading, and worth the wait! But I can see that I may have to swallow my pride and get cooking. Meanwhile, to my third idea: if every one of the 132 supporters so far would agree to approach one other person, perhaps a close friend or someone they haven't yet tried who they think might be persuaded that Parkinson's & the Tango Effect would be a excellent project in which to be involved, and extend a personal invitation to that person, that might be a way to boost the momentum. What do you think?
