my summertime shed post
Friday, 3 July 2015
Hello to all my Unbound comrades,
It's been a while since I left you a message in my shed. How are you all? I hope you have been enjoying this glorious summer sunshine. The 'Springfield Road' audio book is finished and now with Unbound. It was epic to sit and read all 250 pages, it was a learning process, trial and error, in my home made vocal booth (pictured above) but I hope you'll enjoy it! Watch this space for the launch!
The festival season is here and I've been having so many adventures, some highlights include Liverpool's Wow Festival; being the poet-in-residence at Salon London's brilliant Also Festival in Warwickshire; supporting Saul Williams at the British Library; hanging out in Hay-on-Wye and How The lights Gets In; contributing to the Poetry Reincarnation at The Roundhouse and the fantastic Stoke Newington Literary Festival too. Thank you to all who were there and came to say hello and buy books. This is where to find me next, coming up...
July 8: Tongue Fu, Udderbelly, London Wonderground, South Bank
July 10: Supporting John Cooper Clarke, St Marys, Hastings
July 11: Unbound Books, Cornbury Festival, Oxford
July 14: Inside, L'escargot, Soho
July 17-18: Lovebox, London
July 22: Jawdance, Apples and Snakes, Rich Mix, London
July 31- Aug 2: Ways With Weirds, Port Eliot Festival, Cornwall
August 14-16: Green Gathering, Wales

The Tongue Fu show on the Southbank is next week, I enjoy these gigs so much. You just never know where the music is gonna take the words, The Tongue Fu band are supreme. Here's a teaser from a previous show. I'm reading the 'Voodoo' excerpt from 'Springfield Road' to a Screaming Jay Hawkins style improvisation: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dl9oQ0rnGhU *those super high heels nearly killed me!
My fellow Unbounder Stephen Colegrave has been hosting these fabulous Soho events, INSIDE, upstairs at L'escargot. The next one is July 14th - Bastille Day - if you can make it to one of these parties I highly recommend it, always great larks and a lovely crowd, check out Stephen's book 'Smutty: The Only Essex Boy In Warhohl's Factory' on Unbound here: http://unbound.co.uk/books/smutty
I'll leave you with two new youtbe clips:
Here's some 'Springfield Road' read at Liverpool's Wow Fest: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BhHNdfrPwJQ
And here's a clip from Stoke Newington Literary Festival: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8IiRDv3rwLY
In October I'm on the road, performing to US book loving audiences, exploring literary festivals and bluegrass and jazz down in Louisiana, Texas, Nashville, New Orleans and more... I hope to see you in field, drinking hooch on a hay bale with me soon!
Thank you for all your support!
With love, Salena Godden
