Just a note to wish you all a happy full June moon, tonight we see the rise of the strawberry moon or rose moon, so remember to look up and out.
At 10pm tonight, June 13th, I'm on BBC Radio 3's The Verb with Ian McMillan. Alongside legend Viv Albertine from The Slits talking about her memoir 'Clothes, clothes, clothes, music, music, music, boys, boys, boys' and there's poetry from the ever so brilliant Hollie McNish. Please do tune in to hear an excerpt from Springfield Road and a chat about memory and memoirs and crowd funding.
I'll also be reading from 'Fishing In The Aftermath Poems 1994-2014' which is published with Burning Eye Books next month. Look out for this juicy roller coaster of a collection out in July - it marks my 20 years hard labour and dutiful service to the business of poetry and performance.
On June 21st Ellah Wakatama Allfrey presents 'The History of the N-Word' on Archive on 4 on BBC R4. I was commissioned to write something new for the show and also invited to read from Springfield Road. I'm sure you'll agree, its a hell of a meaty subject. The show was produced by author Colin Grant - his memoir 'Bageye At The Wheel' I highly recommend. Listen out for it, I know it also features poet Raymond Antrobus and interesting archive recordings of Lenny Bruce and more...
Coming up this summertime festival season you'll find me here:
July 4th / Speaky Spokey / Brighton
July 20th / Latitude Festival / Poetry Stage/ hosting & performing 2pm - 8pm
July 24th / Port Eliot / Way With Weirds / Cornwall
August 1st / Green Gathering Festival / Chepstow
September 6th / Festival No. 6 / Portmeirion, Wales
Springfield Road is nearly ready to go to the printers, I cannot wait to see the finished thing. The proof copies are currently being posted to reviewers and press and so far the feedback is that it really IS making people craugh = cry+laugh. It's been an epic adventure to get here, but its a real book now, this makes me quite nevous, excited and terrified in equal measures. Soon we will be able to reveal all the Septembertime VIP launch party fun stuff, and you know me, I love that part the most...
Wishing you a happy midsummers, magificent summertimes, a rose moon and the plumpest strawberries.
See you at the festivals!
