Just emailed the manuscript of Senseless back to Unbound following the second and final bout of the structural edit. This time I read it through and tweaked twice more and I have to say, I welled up when I got to the end (both times!). Just so pleased with what Gill has helped me to do.
A good friend of mine referred to Senseless as my baby and it got me running that analogy through as we go along with the publishing process. Here are my thoughts:
Senseless took a while to form and almost as long to be born into the hands of a publisher (several rejections before finding Unbound led to a painfully long labour).
However, once Unbound took her in their arms, they have proven to have remarkable midwifery skills. She was a lovely cute baby but prone to ugly bouts of screaming and pooing and definitely needed to mature.
Unbound soon put her in the care of a very skilled and experienced governess called Gill who helped me to whip her into shape and become a walking, talking, beautful child.
As soon as she has her school uniform fixed (I’m so excited to see the cover design!) she will be passed to the hands of many able teachers. With me always on hand she will be refined into a perfectly formed young lady.
At that point, she’ll leave the nest and head out into the world (your hands!). I will be very nervous and excited to see how she gets on.
My hope, and the hope of all authors, can only be that she becomes a loved and respected older lady rather than dying tragically young. That will depend on how she is received by the world at large :)
