This January, as part of their explorer series, Mayfair bar Mr Fogg’s will team up with Bill Colegrave, the adventurous and fascinating travel writer, who has ventured to more than 110 countries and currently, writing Scraps of Wool, a celebration of travel writing, inspired by many fellow explorers and travellers from around the world. Guests can look forward to an evening of enchanting tales from Mr. Colegrave’s expeditions, including his adventure to find the source of the River Oxus in Afghanistan as well as entertaining and inspirational excerpts from his soon-to-be published book.
(NB I do not recognise myself from this description either…in case you were bemused. Bill)
Let me know via firstname.lastname@example.org if you want a place/s reserved. No tickets; no cost.
Taking guests on a vicarious journey through one of the unstable regions of the world (without them having to leave their cosy arm chairs in Mr Fogg’s humble Mayfair abode), the event will be held on Monday, 11th January 2016 and will begin with a 30-minute talk from Mr. Colegrave at precisely 6.01pm followed by a 30 minute Q&A.
Bill Colegrave has travelled to more than 110 countries around the world. In 2011, Mr Colegrave wrote and published Halfway House to Heaven, which documents his expedition to find the source of the River Oxus within the Wakhan Corridor and Pamir Mountains of Afghanstan.
Bill is now creating Scraps of Wool, a collection of inspiring passages, stories and moments from adventurers, explorers and the world’s greatest travellers, that will be published in 2016 by Unbound.
He wants the help of the audience at his talk on 11th January. Guests can bring their own choices of passages or books that have inspired and excited them. Together, you can help build the book.
Mr Fogg's is a recreation of the Victorian home of Jules Verne's most famous adventurer, Phileas Fogg. Modelled on the very Mayfair house in which Phileas would have lived after travelling Around the World in 80 Days, the bar is refined but at the same time truly off-the-wall, breathing liveliness and fun into the area.
