And so the story starts...
The fine folk at Unbound Central have been nothing short of lovely having accepted Saving Grace into the fold and as a result here you are; either a paid up member of the Saving Grace Supporters Society, or shortly about to become so. Or so I sincerely hope!
To get us started and by way of saying hello and thank you, I thought a photo of the hell that is my writing desk might serve well. So here it is. A crappy little desk in reality, but one I love. Bought for a tenner from a junk store that specialises in touring the small auction houses of rural France and then poncifying their spoils with a lick of paint, it is simple and utilitarian. The shelf contruction behind the laptop screen I made with my own fair hand. The assorted detritus has accumulated like lichen on a sloth, over three years or more. Your business card will doubtless be around here somewhere, if we've ever met.
Each and every artefact has a story behind it. For example, the withered crepe paper flowers in the pen pot (top left) were made for me a cute little girl I met in Kerala, India when I was there to research a travel piece for The Lady. The pen pot itself and its twin (top right) were gifts from the Sunday Oxford Literary Festival in consecutive years (2005/2006). I'll explain other pieces over the weeks to come.
For now though, thank you for visiting, thank you for your support and I hope that enough of you come on board to get Saving Grace published and allow me to tell a gentle, wistful and hopefully funny story that might just put a smile on your face.
And by the way, may I say how lovely you look today?!
