"Often the obvious explanations of how power is held and exercised over women are very basic."

"Sometime I think that my explanation of it is very simplistic, because it’s so obvious. But often the obvious explanations of how power is held and exercised over women are very basic. Tell them what they can and can’t do with their bodies, don’t give them money - or very little, or control the amount they get - and if neither of these things work, there’s always violence. I almost feel like apologising that that seems very basic and simple. It is very basic. It is very simple. And it’s the one reason I keep hold of the word ‘patriarchy’. It is still there in this country."

That's a quote from an interview with Ailbhe Smyth, convener of the Coalition to Repeal the Eighth Amendment, which will appear in the anthology. I thought I'd share it with you, because it articulates wtih such great clarity the situation that we are in.

Thanks again to everyone who supported this project and who continues to spread the word about it.

The text of the anthology will be sent to Unbound soon, and the great team in there have been working on some excellent cover designs, which I'm really excited to share with you as the project moves forward.

These things take time, so thank you for your patience with this project as it comes to fruition!

To supporters living in Ireland, enjoy the Bank Holiday weekend! I'll be back with another update soon.
