A London Happening
PADDY IS DEAD AND THE KIDS KNOW IT
You don’t very much hear of young fellows now in Ireland called Paddy but back in the old times when ‘pot’ and the like were beginning to make themselves known round about the place, yes and LP’s, there was a ‘rekkird’ or ‘platter of vinyl’ released with all kinds of pop bands and groovy combinations on it, including Orange Machine and Granny’s Intentions. Which some people swore was ‘music made by devils’ and was having the effect of ‘putting the kids mad in the head.’ But it wasn’t – not the type of ‘kid’ that I have in mind anyway, who started wearing coats with great big lumps of fur on them, yes, and space-type boots while talking all kinds of nonsense. Such as Paddy Is Dead and The Kids Know It, which was the name as I say of the album which purported to be in the process of shooting modernism out the fuck of the top of a cannon and making all them poor old country fellows smoking pipes run away out of that and be ashamed of themselves for squeezing concertinas and tootling old bockedy whistles.
BUT WHAT HAS ALLL THIS GOT TO DO WITH BOOKS AND LITERATURE?
Nothing, except that in a venue which goes by the name of THE BOOGALOO PUBLIC HOUSE in HIGHGATE, LONDON, on exactly WEDNESDAY 14TH SEPT from 7PM, ‘THE KIDS’ concerned will be as follows:
PATRICK MCCABE author of Poguemahone
LARRY BEAU whistler, chanter and all-round dispenser of wonders….
Who propose, in the FIRST PART OF THE SHOW, to entertain you with the contents of a literary psychedelic literary carnival…
Prior to introducing: THE SECOND HALF OF THE SHOW with more ‘KIDS’ – including London’s own
DAVID SINGLETON & FRIENDS
Might that be YOU???
Are you a KID?
MAYBE A KRAZY KAT?
COME ALONG AT 7PM
ADM: Appreciation of the arts & all-round grooviness.
(Glassy, abstracted ‘Arts Lab’ looks a definite bonus.)
(buke-riter and all-round lover of the ‘pops.’)
ALL PLEDGERS WELCOME - RSVP: RINA@UNBOUND.CO.UK
This sounds like a fantastic event - thank you for making it possible. Sadly I'll need to attend in spirit alone, so give an ear to that cranky whisper in the corner.
