How interesting for them to suggest to make things up, in a memoir! I really appreciate your dedication to honesty but in the grand scheme of things it’s probably the right thing to do, certainly relative to taking them out of them your memoir entirely. Almost another step further along the process!

Now I will be looking for the made up bits.....and get it wrong. The unreliable narrator is an established literary trope; think Brett Easton Eliis and Chuck Pahlniuk. Go for it.
