At last, the news everyone has been waiting for: MEETING ODETTE has made target! It's going to happen. It really is. And it's all thanks to you, my dear, treasured friends and (I hope) fans!

I can't thank you enough for:
a) pledging to the book;
b) your ongoing support, moral as well as financial;
c) bearing with us while the funding was raised;
d) bearing with us still longer while I revise and update the manuscript and then send it into the Unbound production process...

What are you looking forward to about the book? My likely top three moments will be discovering what my editor tells me I ought to add/subtract/multiply to improve it; seeing what the jacket design will be; and...seeing it as an actual book after all these years.

1992 is a long time ago. That's when I started writing it. At one point, probably around the turn of the century, I decided as an exercise to go through it and cut anything and everything that was extraneous. The length halved. Today I make more cuts every time I look at it, but with the addition of other passages the length is creeping up towards 60,000 words. At its longest, it was 90,000; at its shortest, 40,000. I don't really care how long it is as long as I can - someday, I hope - take a bit of pride in the content, and as long as you, dear readers, enjoy it.

As for the title, we may stick with it, or we may not. Like democracy, it's not perfect, but it's better than anything else we've tried.

A quick reminder: just because the book has reached 100 per cent of funding, that doesn't mean you can't pledge to it. Indeed, the more people who pre-order with a pledge, the better, because sometimes the extra £s can help with matters such as cover design (with the extra cash on Ghost Variations, which was 129% funded, we were able to pay for an historic image from a photo library). So please do encourage your friends to join the party - all pledges (except Early Swan) are still up for grabs!

THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR ALL YOU HAVE DONE TO HELP! I look forward to bringing you a beautiful book one of these days.
