ODETTE concert at Barnes Music Society, Wednesday 13 November

Dear friends and supporters,

ODETTE continues to fly, and not only in cyberspace and bookshelves. On Wednesday this week (13 Nov) I join forces with the award-winning, rising-star violinist Fenella Humphreys and the ever-magnificent pianist Viv McLean to present ODETTE: A CELEBRATION OF SWAN LAKE at the Barnes Music Society. It's at the lovely Old Sorting Office (OSO) arts centre beside Barnes Pond, London SW13, at 7.30pm.

(above: Fenella Humphreys, our violin-Odette and Odile too)

Our narrated concert mingles selected readings from the book with the story behind Tchaikovsky’s creation of Swan Lake and its passionate, tragic inspirations in the composer's own, doomed, emotional world. Fenella Humphreys embraces the great violin solos with which Tchaikovsky bedecked his score, as well as the closely related Violin Concerto; pianist Viv McLean evokes the influence of Chopin and Liszt on Tchaikovsky; and there’s plenty of humour, with works by Saint-Saëns and Gershwin. Come and share with us the enchantment through this joyous celebration of a beloved ballet, its composer, its fairy tale and what they can mean to us today.

We hope to see you there!

Love and best wishes,
