You will have heard by now that Not Speaking is fully funded. The manuscript has been delivered. This means we go into production in the usual way. There will be an editing process - all good publishers take editing seriously. I've had excellent editors in the past so I'm looking forward to working with the team at Unbound. Editing isn't something to rush, so about 4 months has been scheduled for our back and forths. Meanwhile there's cover design, and after that printing and proofing. The book will be ready and landing on people's mats (I hope) by May 2019.
Where will we be as a country in May 2019? It's a daunting thought. I think my book will be timely in lots of ways. At the very least, some readers will find comfort by immersing themselves at the micro-level in one family's history, with its built-in European element - and reasonably happy ending (not a spoiler; everyone survives).
I've been a bit slack on the updates in recent months but I do intend to keep you posted. It's your pledges that are making the book possible. I really appreciate the belief, trust and generosity. And as I think ahead to spring 2019 I feel even more grateful that I have this communally-supported book to concentrate on, and make the new year memorable for the best reasons.
