Not Buying It

By Charlotte Henry

The post-truth society: how we got here; where is "here", exactly, and what on earth can we do about it?

Thursday, 11 May 2017

Oh, snap!

To those of you who have already pledged to get your copy of "Not Buying It", and those who are about to pledge (yes, that's you isn't it?!) thank you very much. The book is taking shape thanks to your support.

When Unbound first comissioned me to write this book we knew we were dealing with a very timely, relevant topic. The issues around fake news and post-truth society that had been seen in the run up to the Brexit vote and Trump's election showed little sign of abaiting.

Then Theresa May called a General Election and they looked more relevant than ever.

Questions immediately arose such as how will we be able to fact check what politicians tell us in such a fraught campaign? Does local media have the resources to hold candidates in their area to account? Will journalists and voters be influenced by a raft of alt-left websites that relentlessly promote Jeremy Corbyn into an echo chamber?

All these questons, and more, suddenly shifted from being theoretical conudrums to be researched and analysed to practical issues happening in front of me as I wrote.

So, amongst the research and the interviews with leading journalists, politicians and academics, the fallout from the upcoming snap general election will be fully analysed in "Not Buying It" Whether politicians are buying front pages or limiting access for certain outlets the topics covered in my book are high up the current agenda.

So thank you for joining me for this ride if you have pledged, and please do pledge and help make the book happen if you have not done so already.

I'll be in touch again very soon!
