Blimey more sketchbook!

Hi all

Just a quick update to show you a few thumbnails from my sketchbook. These are all plans for volume 2, so look away now if you don't want to see spoilers.

Mary arrives at the Bunker. These are all graphic pen and chalk, and each layout is about 3 inches on the shortest side.

Searching. I realised that the set of panels on the left lacked variety, so I made some adjustments.

Working at this scale is fine to get the rough ideas down, but it also means that some potential issues aren't obvious, so no matter how confident I am, I'll be doing more detailed, half-full-size versions.

As ever, if you like these pictures, share them - word-of-mouth is the best way to help projects like this succeed - and thank you if you do!

That's all for now - cheers

Hi Shaun,
I saw your parents yesterday! So wonderful to see them both looking so well.
And afterwords I went to see the Leonardo show at the national Gallery . it is all about the single painting “Virgin of the rocks”
It was really fascinating. All about light and shadow. In a darkened room, there was a larger than life size photograph a real woman sitting in her pose.
You could change the way the light hit the figure the rotating a circle. And it was amazing! She could go from looking like a really dark Caravaggio lit from the low left, then a spooky Halloween mask lit from below, to being in bright sunshine.
When I saw your drawings of the figure with a lamp, I thought about how the light might hit and distort the face in interesting way and then cast those fantastic shadows. Just a thought. I love seeing your work. You are an amazing artist!
All the best,

Thanks Seana! I'm bloody jealous you got to see the Leonardo exhibition, sounds fascinating!

One of the things I'm most looking forward to in the next book is working to show different light conditions - because the facial expressions of people change little in the artwork, I'm relying on lighting, plus body language of course, to communicate emotion. And there will be a section that will feature a lot of distorted shadows :)

Thank you very much, so glad you're enjoying my work - cheerse
