Update 3

Tuesday, 30 October 2018

Hello!

It's been a long time since my last update, but even though some things have slightly pushed back against me keeping on pushing for this book to happen (like moving house, a touch of burnout and having to take work that pays me money now so I can attempt to pay my bills) I have still been doing what I can.

For example I did this interview with the brilliant Gender Stories podcast: Mansplaining masculinity which went out in August. You can find the Gender Stories in any place that podcasts gather together, such as Apple Podcasts, if streaming from those links doesn’t work for you.

I've also written a piece for this brilliant book What is Masculinity? Why Does it Matter? And Other Big Questions which is aimed at young people aged 9+ and comes out on 13th June 2019. Like Mansplaining Masculinity you can preorder it now but unlike Mansplaining Masculinity the book will be published regardless of if people preorder it or not.

Apart from the above I've been pitching articles, performing the show at various venues, sending lots of emails and making sure that I tweet about the book at least once a week, but a lot of that doesn't come to anything I can share with you here.

Frustrated that a lot of what I've been trying to do to get the word out about the book hasn't come to fruition I decided to write a piece for medium expanding on the work I've done already and starting to get down some of the ideas for the second part of the book. The piece is called "What About the Women?" (Content Note: Rape, sexual assault, harassment, violence). Sharing the piece and "clapping" for it on medium to help increase it's views would be really helpful and appreciated. So far it's been well recieved and has led to new pledges. I also made a twitter thread of some of the podcasts, pieces and people who I linked to in the piece.

I've also recently written a 9th installment of the medium series Down to a sunless sea: memories of my dad (Content Note: death, dementia, old age, mental health issues, euthanasia, suicide) that I've been writing about my dad, most of which was written in 2017. One of the pieces in that collection addresses masculinity directly and will probably end up in Mansplaining Masculinity in some form.

It's amazing to have got to 23% funded, the last 3% has been a longer slog than the first 20% but hopefully things will gain momentum soon. You can help that happen by sharing the page and encouraging people you know to preorder the book too.

Thank you to everyone who has supported the book and shared the page so far. I’m so grateful for your support. I really believe in this project and it’s great to see others believe in it too!

You can help make this book happen. Please share it, and encourage your followers to share it, too.
