The 243 all the way there...
Welcome new supporters, and thank you to everyone for your ongoing support.
And so it begins...I have been busy thumbnailing the first part of the book, and because I got impatient, I started some of the artwork too. 'Like an Orange' begins with my first journey to Headway, and exploring the fact that when we remember something, we do so with the knowledge of what has happened since. Although at the time of my first journey to Submit to Love studios I hadn't yet met everyone I was about to meet, I can't remember that journey without those people in my mind. As such, Sean is sitting behind me on the bus - he was the first member I met at the studio and he knows every bus route in north London.
I got the 243 all the way there. On my way I went past my old flat in Stoke Newington - it was here I first conceived of the idea of making a comic book about other people's stories, I just didn't know who they were yet. The works in progress above show my bus journey, there are two me's - one on the bus in front of Sean, and one looking out the window of my old flat sketching the windows opposite. These are the windows above the bus - who knew that's where that sketch would end up? The nice big orangey sun is from some of Sean's fine pastel work - full picture below.
I hope you each have a splendid Christmas and ever after actually! If you feel like all your Christmases are rolling into one, then here's my top tip - from hereon in try to remember something from each one that makes them different to the rest. Then, every year go through them in your mind. I've been doing this since I was a child (for birthdays, Easter and NYE too). It takes ages now I'm such an old biddy, and can get a bit boring but it's my very own tradition and a celebration of MY LIFE! Memories are precious, look after them if you can.
MERRY PITHMAS ONE AND ALL!!
