Towards the Big Finish!
Greetings from the hermitage!
As you know, we’re in the final stages of birthing this graphic memoir of mine. A huge thank you to all of you who are supporting me and to the lovely passengers who came on board just before the gates closed. Corny as it sounds, I think about you all a lot. In a world where creative self expression has historically been a ‘hard sell’, your belief in me is literally the fuel that powers the engine.
It’s been a very eventful week in the midst of my intensive rush to the finish line in December.
I was invited to say a few a words about the late, great Stan Lee on Radio 5. Whilst not a super hero genre creator myself, I realise the reach of this incredible man’s influence in looking to forge new ways and sources of storytelling.
I certainly can’t complain about limited arenas for storytelling. My acting opportunities may be momentarily curtailed by my focus on the memoir but I was delighted to be asked to revive my Doctor Who character Mags in a very exciting trilogy for the audio drama producers Big Finish. No rehearsal or make up required! I’m recording the last of these tomorrow and they’ll be released in April, May and June 2019. Nicely tieing in with the publication of “Life Drawing”.
Mags seems to be prevalent in my life. This week I was invited to a comic book signing for the release of the Seventh Doctor collection from Titan Comics, featuring my art illustrating the Mags back up strip by Richard Dinnick.
And she is of course, appearing in the book!
All of which brings me to my favourite word...”Gratitude”.
I can’t tell you what it feels like to know that an audience has remembered your work and more than that, talented writers are moved to create incredible new scenarios. That is the power of Doctor Who and the loyalty of the fandom.
No more from me now until the tome is finished!
