The Secret Life of LEGO® Bricks

A celebration of the LEGO® brick, exclusively for fans

Ebook news!

When we launched The Secret Life of LEGO®️ Bricks we knew there would be limitations to providing a colour ebook with the number of images likely to be included, therefore we sold it as a black and white ebook.

Since then, our production team have found a way to produce one which is both full-colour and has reflowable text, which will provide the best e-reading experience possible for supporters, so you can enjoy the book and its images in colour.

You will shortly be sent an email with instructions on downloading your ebook. It will also be available for download in your Unbound account; we have some helpful instructions here:
https://unboundhelp.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/articles/4411159430801-How-do-I-download-the-ebook

Please note, the ebook is only available in EPUB format. This is due to a change at Amazon, as they now accept EPUB files instead of MOBI.

We understand that this may cause some issues for supporters with older Kindles and recommend using online converters such as convertio in order to change the format to MOBI if this is still required.

We hope you enjoy the book!

I have still not received the book. I got the tracker number but it seems to not move since November. Where do I go to look for it?

Crap. I would have bought the eBook in addition to the hardcover if I had known it would be in color. Is there any chance we could still get an opportunity to buy it?

I would also love to get the ebook; and I've found some (very minor) typos (example: the page with the train wheels has the last two descriptions swapped) - is it worth reporting those anywhere for a future press run?

Just received an email a few hours ago that the book has been dispatched. I assume it still will take a few weeks to arrive due to very slow customs procedures, even into the new year. But beforehand: Well done and Seasons Greetings.

I would be interested in getting an ebook copy as well!

As for shipping, I'm in the USA (so it was international for me as they come out of GB).
I got emails from Unbound noting my orders (I made two orders) were dispatched Nov 26 and Nov 30 (this email was obviously delayed).
I received email from FedEx Cross-Border regarding the shipments on Nov 28 and Nov 29.
Orders were delivered Nov 30 and Dec 1 via FedEx, very well packaged - book shrink-wrapped, bubble wrap around, placed in corrugated cardboard book mailer, and that placed in large bubble-envelope/bag secured not to flop around.

Got my digital version and it looks great. Just a note that despite the update saying there is only one format (epub), the download email I received not long ago offers "Save all formats directly to your Dropbox account." Anyway, I got mine, epub is fine.

Hello again!

We were so excited to share the news of the colour ebook with you! We hope you absolutely love it. It's available for all supporters in your Unbound account now.

@MadsBagterp- I'm sorry to hear this, delivery is taking a while at the moment due to the peak Christmas period. If you are concerned please email support@unbound.com and we'll investigate for you. We're getting a lot of queries just now so please bear with us if it takes a little longer to get back to you.

- Those of you still to receive dispatch notes please rest assured your copies will be coming soon. Our warehouse are using their most experienced packers to get them ready and it's quite a manual process to ensure they are safely ready for transit. We expect everyone to receive a dispatch note by the end of this week provided you have confirmed delivery details.

@WayneBurnett - Thanks for highlighting this! We used to offer .mobi before Kindle changed their systems to accept Epub3 files and this text is left over from this. Good to know it needs an update and I'll pass this information onto our product team.

Happy reading everyone!

For those worried about not receiving their hard copy yet, I can perhaps offer some comfort - I ordered three copies, for me and for my two AFOL children. First to get confirmed was just a book - which is safely received; then was a book with one extra goody - which was delivered yesterday; just one more to come - which hopefully will be no more than another day or two

Have been excited to receive this, however why on earth have Evri been chosen to deliver this? They’re incompetent. I’ve waited for a delivery today which they claim to have attempted but categorically haven’t - but there’s no way of getting in touch with them. Utterly useless. Had I known they were going to be used I wouldn’t have even backed the projected as it’s not worth trying to deal with them

An incredibly disappointing end to the enjoyable process of ordering and watching this book being made. Why are unbound using Evri? Bad move. I received an email/tracking number over a week ago with an update saying there is a delay with delivery and they are going to attempt the next working day. Over a week has lapsed since then. What on earth is going on. Unbound you need so sort this out you are letting down your customers and authors.

Hello!

Happy to hear more and more of you are receiving your hard copies! Our warehouse have informed us that dispatch will be completed by the end of this week. The process of picking and packing these 4000+ orders is very manual and the dedicated warehouse team are working super hard to get them out as quickly as possible. We appreciate your patience, you will receive a tracking number as soon as your copy has left the warehouse.

Due to the weight of this book we were unable to send it out with Royal Mail in all instances. Evri have therefore been used as an alternative, all orders are sent fully tracked and should you have any issues or concerns with your delivery please contact support@unbound.com who will be able to help.

If you are having trouble with the ebook please contact support@unbound.com who will try to help.

Best wishes,

Unbound Support

Can anyone please confirm the page count of the physical copy. While I appreciate that the epub formatting may differ from a physical copy the initial projection was for 368 - 400 pages whereas the epub I,ve received is 280 (which includes 15 or so pages of contributors names).

From dream to nightmare. I have wanted this book for so long and was so happy that it was going to arrive soon. With quite a high price + shipping to denmark, i wasn’t expecting to pay 35€ on top for import duties… sadly this ruined it a bit for me

8 days since my last update here. Still no update from Evri. The last update I had from them is still as of 2nd December when they stated there had been a delay with delivery and they were going to attempt to deliver the next working day.

Customer services contacted and not much help at all. Whilst I am still looking forward to getting my hands on this but, I would NEVER use Evri again.

A full second before your shipment and i just got a message from PostNL regarding import duty. “Only” 9,21. So there is movement of shipments towards the Netherlands.
Cant wait to get it

Well, the book arrived yesterday to Spain with a surprise charge of 24€ extra Euro for customs fees. This was a very unpleasant surprise and if I had known that it needed to clear customs on my end, I would have done it myself which would have cost me under 10€ without the Post Company fees.

In addition, I see that the hardback pledge that I paid 70€ + shipping (13€+) for, It's now listed as 60€. So it seems that I was charged an extra 10€ for that pledge level for no reason at all, and then 24€ for the customs, which is almost 40% of the price of the book.

I'm really not happy about this, and I haven't had this kind of experience with any other crowdfunding site before...

I received my book in Canada a couple of weeks ago and was also surprised by a FedEx fee of $15.00 Cdn (not for taxes but from them and not surprisingly I've had no answer to my queries but this is a FedEx issue). While I really like the way the book looks I personally expected some type of jacket with it. The whole process of supporting this project, from initial order and the changes early on, that left some of us out of luck with the added items, the lack of followup during the lengthy publishing process, the extra cost of shipping, and now the problems getting the epub download working (only one optioto download and it can't be opened with any program I've tried) have made this whole process so frustrating and disappointing that I will never consider this crowdfunding platform again, and the Lego Group certainly has taken a hands off approach that I was not expecting from them. I supported their Kickstarter campaign some years ago and it was an absolute delight.. I only wish this had been the same!
