We did it!
A huge thanks to all of you - the more than 650 people who have backed Legends Of The Leaf - for helping me reach my funding target! With a flurry of pledges, we raced over the 100% milestone last night. This means that the book will definitely be published, which is a great relief after dreaming about it for so long! Teenage me (pictured in be-denimed glory with my houseplants in my bedroom in the photograph above) would be thrilled.
What happens next? I am beavering away on the manuscript now, and illustrator Helen Entwisle is creating 25 gorgeous illustrations for each of the species I am profiling.
But let me be honest with you: excited as I am to bring you Legends Of The Leaf, it's going to take some time before you have a copy in your hands. It takes time and dedication to research and write a book like this, and once I have handed the manuscript to Unbound, their work begins in terms of editing, laying out and printing. So I hope you can be patient in the knowledge that your investment will pay off in due course.
I will keep supporters updated through sending messages whenever I can, and I'll be working my socks off to make Legends Of The Leaf the houseplant book you've been dreaming of!
If you've pledged for a houseplant consultation, you'll be hearing from me in the next few weeks to set a day and time for us to chat.
Meanwhile there's still plenty of time to upgrade your pledge, and for others to make new pledges, in the run-up to the book's publication, so please continue to spread the word.
If you have any questions, do ask: there's a Q&A tab at the bottom of the 'about the book' page on Unbound, here. And you can get your regular houseplant fix courtesy of my podcast, On The Ledge: find out more and subscribe here.
Thanks again for your support: you're all Legends!
