“An atmospheric jigsaw puzzle of a novel…”
As the publishing date approaches (6 May) for Into the Mouth of the Lion, I am really looking forward to getting the book into the hands of supporters like you! You should get it in advance of bookstores and Amazon. And for those of you with higher pledges for photographs and classes, those should be delivered in April and May as well.
Early reviews from advanced readers have started coming in, and I have to say: as an author, it is thrilling when readers reflect back how they feel about the book, and what they see in the layers of meaning. Here are a couple of quotes from reviews from authors I admire:
“An atmospheric jigsaw puzzle of a novel that fits together, stage by stage, from a series of vivid episodes. The story of Lena’s search for her missing sister sweeps the reader across expanses of space and time: from wintry 1980s London, to the Lisbon of Lena's mother's youth, to the heat of war-ravaged, early twenty-first century Angola and beyond. A memorable debut.”
Emily Midorikawa, author of A Secret Sisterhood
“Totally gripped... I come away moved, desperately sad, and somehow also hopeful – because, with this story, A.B. Kyazze holds up both the dark and the light of humanity – how, even in desperate, terrible circumstances, there are those touches of love, of kindness.”
Julia Crouch, author of Her Husband’s Lover
I can’t wait to get the book into your hands, and to hear your views about Lena’s story. Please remember that pre-orders are open now on Amazon and Bookshop.org, so if you might want extra copies for a book club or friends and family, you can reserve them now.
If you want more news from me, feel free to find me on twitter (@abkwriting) or instagram (@abk_writing), and I should have an updated website to share with you soon.
Take care,
