An Other's Look - in production
Hello - while the reality-pantomime plays out in Westminster, the production of An Other's Look progresses in a smooth and orderly fashion.
Unbound's production and editorial managers have both been in contact, advising me of the publishing schedule and generally surrounding me with encouragement and support. It's a welcome shock after months of solitary writing to find myself part of a team, discussing characters and themes that until now have lived only in my head.
The estimated official publication date is February 2020 but there will be copies available before then. Unbound think February is the best date for publication in terms of sales. We will also be sending out advance digital copies to reviewers and seeking comments to go on the cover.
Some other great news is that Emma will be working on the structural edits. Who is Emma? Well, Emma was my editor for The Wrong Story so she knows the three main characters and my writing style. She was brilliant last time and I'm very happy that she's able to work with me again. She'll send her initial feedback to me by the middle of June and the plan is that I wil have any changes we agree in place by the first week of July, ready for the copyediting to begin. At this stage everything is being reviewed - including the book's title.
Now that work on the text is underway, Unbound are also thinking about the cover and spine design. We've been discussing moodboards, themes, genres, settings, characters' appearance, shoutlines - all the elements that will allow the design team to encapsulate the book in a single cover. As part of this process the design will have to pass ‘The Shelf Test’. Once we have a 100% confirmed design, Unbound will provide a high-res version that we can use for commercial promotion of the book.
That's it for the moment. I'll keep you up to date as we move forward. Again, thank you so much for your support. None of this would be happening if you hadn't pitched in to help.
