Preparing for print

I see that Unbound now describe the status of George Canning Is My Son as "Preparing for print". I am expecting to receive the final proofs in a few days, so perhaps it really is true and the project is nearing its conclusion after all these years. Phew.

The last six weeks have been taken up with preparing the index. I started out not knowing what I was doing, but by the end I had begun to feel a bit more confident. At least I had found out some of the things not to do.  I would have liked to start it all over again, but perhaps fortunately there was no time for that.

Doing the index inevitably threw up some inconsistencies, such as the various spellings of the name of Mary Ann's fellow actress, Mrs Bellfille or Belfill or Bellfill, and one or two that were more significant, necessitating some slight rewording of the text.  But I kept my urge to tinker well under control.

Anyway, here's hoping that the result will be in your hands, or on your kindles, sometime in March.
