Six Months In
Good day! (Sounds weird saying that on a Monday, but there it is :D)
Since this post effectively marks the six-month point of the Discarded campaign, it seems only fitting to share the song played when I officially began the draft, and during every period set aside for it up to submission here on Unbound: Opening Suite from the Halo Combat Evolved Soundtrack (Usual copyrights apply; I own nothing!).
I came somewhat late to the Halo Nation--didn't own or regularly play the first two games until I got my first laptop in '07, and didn't get these or any of the rest on Xbox until a couple years later--but the series has always stayed with me, especially the music. I can still remember the first time I heard this particular tune, when I was maybe twelve or thirteen...and how badly I fared on the multiplayer :). Eventually, though, I collected many of the main games (1, 2, 3, ODST, Reach, and 4), and most or all of the music that went with them, which now have a place of honor on my Soundtracks playlist: 131 in all, out of over 400 on the list! Thrilling, somber, terrifying and hauntingly beautiful all at once, this music has become my main listening choice for sci-fi writing of any kind, and helped me power through this super-soldier story whenever blocks arose or imagination seemed to run dry. Thanks to it, and with a little more effort and pledges--and luck :) --you will see Greg and Leah's story on digital and print shelves before too much more time passes. Enjoy, comment and share!
